Creating a social media presence for your business is a great way to engage customers and increase profit. However, there are some dos and don’ts to make sure your social media efforts are successful.

Do have a plan

Creating some social media profiles? Great! Do you have a plan? If the answer is no, wait on social media until you do. Without a solid plan, you may not get the results you need. You may also be inclined to let go of any social media efforts if they don’t get you results immediately. (For sample social media plans, check our next blog post here.)

Don’t spam …..

No one likes a spammer. Even if all of your content is original, make sure it sounds “human” – you don’t want to sound like a robot just trying to make sales. At the same time, make sure you also vary your content. If you post the same thing all the time, like business promotions, people are likely to ignore you.

….. but do post relevant info

That doesn’t mean never posting about your business. While keeping your customers interested with non-business-related things is good practice, keep your followers and subscribers engaged with posts and tweets about your services or products.

Don’t ignore feedback

Your followers may occasionally offer advice regarding your posts on social media or your business itself. Listen to feedback. After all, your followers are your (potential) customers. It may also be a good idea to ask your followers what they would like to see more of on your Twitter profile or Facebook page. That way, you ensure your followers are engaged.
